Blackboard Accessibility Tips
Blackboard was the first LMS in the world to achieve Gold level certification for non-visual access, issued by The National Federation of the Blind (NFB). Blackboard Learn is the first and only LMS in the world to deliver a conformance statement by a third-party. In 2012, Deque Systems issued a conformance statement, declaring Blackboard compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Priority AA.
Keep default color scheme
Keep default color scheme
- Blackboard’s default settings are geared towards accessibility. Keeping the default colors when necessary, including black text, will ensure minimal issues with accessibility.
- Guideline 3.2 of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines covers predictability. Having a consistent page layout will help students that are navigating via user agent.
Alt text on images
- Alt tags should be a text alternative for the content shown as an image. An images alt text should be equivalent to the image itself.
- Every non-decorative image should have alternative text.
- Decorative images should have an empty alt tag (alt=”” in html).
